March 30 ~ Enough, Already!!!

I could have posted a picture of 10 cm of fresh snow!
Instead, I'll show you our presently blooming Christmas Cactus,
which, like the rest of us, is confused about the season!

March 29 ~ Best 'Snow' Shot

My Camera Club selected this photo as my best 'snow' shot.
I took it last winter, just off Ridge Road.
I love the intensity of the very dark shadows and very sunlit snow.

March 28 ~ Cheeky Racoon

This was not the same racoon that I saw last week at the yurt.
This one seemed younger and more timid.
He was living under the front steps of the yurt, awaiting spring,
just like the rest of us!

March 27 ~ Long Shadows

The late afternoon sun cast long, dark shadows on Lac Phillippe.

March 26 ~ Wanakiwin Yurt

Wanakiwin Yurt for a fun-filled overnight with wonderful friends ...
Anne, Margo, Frances, Judy, Dianne Peg

March 25 - Three Seasons

These two small bikes have been abandoned for the winter,
at the kindergarten gate to Aaron's school.
I think they give three seasons in one photo -
Fall Leaves, Spring Bikes, and, of course, Winter Snow!

March 24 ~ On the way home...

Walking Aaron home from school on a warm sunny day,
gave him a chance to play along the way, and for me to snap a few photos!

March 23 ~ Ice Cream

Marty is excited for the arrival of 'ice cream' ... dairy free, made with coconut milk!

March 22 ~ Spring!...on my street

Everyone in Ottawa has Had Enough!!
Please bring on some sun and warmth!!
The calendar says... Spring!

March 20 ~ Unexpected visitor

This little guy came out of hibernation... Hungry!
He was after our food, and very assertive in his search!

March 19 ~ Wanikiwin Yurt

Bob and I enjoyed wonderful overnight at Wanakiwin Yurt, with  our friends Janet and Darryll.

March 18 ~ Dreaming ...

Yesterday, as I drove past the arboretum, I had memories of the beautiful Iris display.
So, just for fun, here's a photo from last spring!

March 17 ~ Season's Over

Last week, the canal closed for the year, spanning a season of 71 days, with 58 skate days.
I skated on the first and the last day, and countless others in between,
enjoying the best conditions in years!
Thanks, NCC!

March 15 ~ Happy Birthday, Bill

My brother, Bill, lives in Vancouver.
Here, he was visiting Guelph,
when Maggie and Duncan were considerably younger than they are now!

March 14 ~ Snowball!

Watch out, Amma! I'm going to get you!

March 13 ~ Another favourite tree

Yes, a five-trunked birch at Mer Bleu.
So Lovely!

March 12 ~ Mer Bleu

A late afternoon trip to the Mer Bleu Bog. We were all alone.
Silence and serenity, so close to the city!

March 11 ~ Berries and Shadows

Megan has a tree in her front yard: the name is unknown to me.
The berries stay all winter and cast lovely, delicate shadows on fresh snow.

March 10 ~ At the Farm

How big is the tractor wheel?
Bigger than you, Aaron!

March 9 ~ A Sunday Skate ...

Aaron's first time skating on the canal!
And the first day of March Break.

March 8 ~ Only on the Canal

Ready - Just in case!

Friday 7 March 2014

March 7 ~ Open Water

Today, for the first time, I spotted a tiny bit of open water in an otherwise frozen world!
There is hope for spring!

March 6 ~ Mine Trail

Another of me favourite trees, on the trail behind Pink's Lake.
My friend, Judy, is dwarfed by this giant.
I usually think of it as a dead tree, but the photo says otherwise!

March 5 ~ Women on Skis

This wonderful group of ten ski enthusiasts
allowed me to give them a two hour tour of Nakkertok -
and were happy to do so!
Conditions were perfect!

March 4 ~ Art - on the canal

Nothing like blending two hobbies ... skating and painting!

Monday 3 March 2014

March 3 ~ The Pulk

Marty enjoys his after noon nap, in the 'pulk',
while Megan gets a hearty workout pulling him.

March 2 - The Cookie Race

Aaron enjoys his after-race Hot Chocolate treat,
while Marty apparently thinks that spring has arrived, with no hat or mitts!
Aaron, Megan, Lee & Marty.

March 1 ~ The Cookie Race

From a week ago, Feb. 22, when I was in Guelph,
Megan and the rest of the family were at Nakkertok's The Cookie Race.
Every finisher receives a circular cookie, hanging from a ribbon!
Megan captured this moment of Bob holding Marty, both looking at the camera!
